Natac Biotech Secures €590K for Botanical Scale-Up

  • A €590,000 grant will fund work to industrialize botanical ingredients and lignin-rich precursors.
  • The 36-month European project brings together 22 partners from 10 countries.

Natac Biotech, a botanical extract developer and manufacturer with main offices in Madrid, Spain, announced on September 22 that it had received €590,000 from the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency. The funding supports industrialization of botanical ingredients and lignin-rich precursors for nutraceutical and cosmetic applications.

The company will lead a business case within I3-LIGNIN2VALUE, carrying out pilot-scale production, bioactive characterization and validation. Its proposed ingredient portfolio draws on olive leaves, wild thistle, rosemary, ivy, nettle and hops, with applications including healthy aging.

The manufacturing work aims to connect extraction and characterization with processes capable of industrial-scale production and commercialization. The project will assess process scalability and commercial viability alongside the properties of the resulting ingredients, moving the work beyond laboratory identification of bioactive compounds.

I3-LIGNIN2VALUE is a 36-month initiative involving 22 partners in 10 countries. It develops interregional value chains using lignin and forest and plant biomass. Natac’s existing production centers are in Hervás and As Somozas, Spain; the announcement does not specify a site or commercial launch date for the funded pilot work.
