- VIT A+ has launched for food fortification in Africa following manufacturing transfer and commercial-scale validation in India.
- Each batch can supply approximately 600 million food servings, according to the companies.
Hexagon Nutrition launched VIT A+, a stabilized vitamin A palmitate ingredient, on September 28 at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference in Accra, Ghana. The formulation targets large-scale fortification of foods including bouillon, wheat flour and sugar across Africa.
The launch follows process validation in India and manufacturing transfer from LIS by Lesaffre’s facility in France, announced on September 23. Particles for Humanity developed the ingredient under the name PFH-VAP.
The companies say its encapsulation material protects vitamin A during storage and cooking. They also say manufacturers can use existing fortification equipment and processes, avoiding investment in new production infrastructure.
“VIT A+ represents years of work to make stable vitamin A available where it is needed most,” said Sherri C. Oberg, chief executive officer and co-founder of Particles for Humanity.
Hexagon will lead commercialization and distribution in Africa, working with food manufacturers and fortification partners. The announcement describes commercial-scale supply capability; it does not disclose sales volumes or customer orders.
